Third Avenue

1906 April – Appropriation #111 dated 2 April 1906 ordered 3rd Avenue to be cleared and graded from Clark Drive to city limits at an estimated cost of $2,050. Between March and September, the Engineer spent $1,904.68 in labour and $198.48 in materials. The work was declared completed on 31st May. i

1906 September — “3rd Avenue is cleared.”ii

1907 March – Third Avenue was graded between Victoria Drive and Semlin. The work was completed on 19th July. iii

1907 July — Fourteen residents wrote to the Board of Works to ask that they lay “a 3-plank walk on 3rd Avenue from Park Drive eastward to Victoria Drive.” This was approved for the south side of the street and the work was completed on 28th September. iv

1907-October — I.J. Dougaur (?) wrote asking “for a sidewalk from Cotton Drive along 3rd Avenue to Park Drive (on the north side). Also that you at once have the great pile of stumps (now occupying most of the width of 3rd Avenue) burned.” The sidewalk was approved and the work was completed on 19th November, and the stumps were taken care of by 20th December. v

1907 Nov — Third Avenue was open to the city boundary.vi

1908 January – A three-plank sidewalk was laid on the south side of 3rd between Victoria Drive and Semlin, and on the north side from Victoria to a point 200’ east of Semlin. The work was completed on 13th February. vii

1909 February – Third Avenue was cleared and graded from Garden to the City limits. The work was completed on 12th June. viii

1910 July – Third Avenue was rocked between Victoria and Lakewood Drives. ix

1912 April – 6’ concrete sidewalk proposed for both sides of 3rd Avenue from Victoria Drive to Woodland Drive at a cost of $5,280.00 with the city paying $422.09.x

1912 June – 6’ concrete sidewalk is proposed for both sides of 3rd Avenue from Victoria Drive to Lakewood Drive at a cost of $2,610.00 with the city paying $234.00.xi

1913 June – 6’ concrete sidewalk on both sides of 3rd Avenue between Victoria Drive and Woodland Drive at a cost of $6,177.27 with the city paying $314.67. xii
