
1902 December – The Board of Works “decided to have a chain gang open Salsbury Drive for one block south of Hastings.” i
1903 October — Edward Odlum wrote to request that Grant Street be opened from Park to Victoria Drives, and what was presumably Salsbury Drive between Grant and Graveley. The Board agreed to blow out the stumps on Grant. ii
1905 February — Isaac Russell asked for the opening of the ditch on Salsbury Drive from Grant to Bismark Street. The request was referred to the Engineer. iii
1905 August — The Board recommended approval of Ald. McDonald’s request for the extension of the sidewalk along Salsbury from Pandora Street two blocks southward. iv
1906 January — Isaac Russell and others asked for a ditch to be opened up between Grant & Bismark on Salsbury. Request was referred to the Engineer for reports. v
1906 March – Salsbury Drive was cleared and graded between Venables and 3,200’ south. George Freeman was the foreman and the work was completed on 15 March. The work was finished in advance of Appropriation #110 dated 21 April 1906 which estimated the cost at $1,600. Between March and December, the Engineer spent $1,502.55 in labour and $88.83 in materials.vi
1906 July – The chain gang pulled stumps at Salsbury & William. vii
1906 August — The Board approved 3-plank sidewalks for Salsbury, south to Venables for $250; and for Harris Street from Victoria to Salsbury for $120.viii
1906 October – The chain gang was ordered to cut a trail on Salsbury Drive between Barnard and Venables to “make passable for wagons.” ix
1907 February – Salsbury Drive was ditched and leveled between Princess and Venables. George Freeman was the foreman and the work was completed on 20th March, x
1907 September – 6’ concrete sidewalk proposed for eastside of Salsbury from William to Charles proposed. Total cost $400.74 with city paying $17.42.xi
1907 November — The City Clerk wrote to the Board of Works noting that he had “carefully examined all the petitions presented to the Council against the proposed local improvements which were considered by the Court of Revision held on 21st day of October 1907, and find that sufficiently signed petitions have been filed against the following work or improvement:-
… Concrete sidewalks … Salsbury Street (sic) east side, from William to Charles Street.” xii
1907 November – 3-plank sidewalks were laid on the east side of Salsbury Drive between William and Charles Streets between 29 Nov and 20 December 1907. The foreman was George Freeman. xiii
1908 February – 3-plank sidewalks were laid on the east side of Salsbury between First and Graveley. The foreman was George Freeman and the work was completed on 7 March. xiv
1908 April – 3-plank sidewalks were laid on the west side of Salsbury between Venables and Parker. The foreman was George Freeman and the work was completed on 19 May. xv
1908 June – 3-plank sidewalks were laid on the west side of Salsbury between Charles and William. The foreman was George Freeman and the work was completed on 24 June. xvi
1908 October – A new sewer was laid on Salsbury Drive between Venables and First Avenue. A Mr. Mills was the foreman.xvii
1908 November – 3-plank sidewalks were laid on the east side of Salsbury Drive between Venables and Parker. The foreman was George Freeman and the work was completed on 12 December. xviii
1908 December – 3-plank sidewalks were laid on the east side of Salsbury between Graveley and 100’ north. The foreman was George Freeman and the work was completed on 29 December.xix
1908 December – 3-plank sidewalks were laid on the west side of Salsbury between Parker and 140’ south. The foreman was George Freeman and the work was completed on 8 January 1909.xx
1909 January – 3-plank sidewalks were laid on the west side of Salsbury between Napier and 100’ south. The foreman was George Freeman and the work was completed on 5 March.xxi
1909 July – 6’ concrete sidewalk proposed for west side of Salsbury Drive between Venables and First Avenue with a cost of $3,004.32 with city paying $734.53 under By Laws 563 and 624; and the east side of Salsbury between Venables and William at a cost of $1,175.76 with the city paying $319.47; and east side of Salsbury between Charles and First Avenue at a cost of $1,589.76 with the city paying $775.48. Also that month, a 3-plank sidewalk was laid on Salsbury between Grant and Graveley. George Freeman was the foreman and the work was completed on 19 August. xxii
1909 August – 3-plank sidewalks were laid on the east side of Salsbury between Charles and Bismark. The foreman was George Freeman and the work was completed on 14 Oct.xxiii
1909 November – 3-plank sidewalks were laid on the west side of Salsbury between Grant and Bismark. The foreman was George Freeman and the work was completed on 13 December.xxiv
1910 February – 3-plank sidewalks were laid on the east side of Salsbury between William and 152’ north. The foreman was George Freeman and the work was completed on 3 June.xxv
1910 April – The manholes on Salsbury between Venables and First Avenue were lowered. G. Routley was the foreman. xxvi
1910 May – Grading for concrete sidewalks was undertaken on both sides of Salsbury Drive between Venables and First. George Freeman was the forman.xxvii
1910 July – Salsbury Drive was rocked between Pender and Venables. xxviii
1912 June – 6” concrete curbs proposed for the west side of Salsbury between Venables and First Avenue at a cost of $2,103.15 with the city paying $754.92.xxix
1912 July – 6’ concrete sidewalks were proposed for the east side of Grant Street between Venables Street and William at a cost of $3,711.38 with the city paying $752.06.xxx
1912 October – 6’ concrete sidewalks with concrete curbs were proposed for Salsbury Drive between William and Charles Street at a cost of $609.84 with the city paying $91.41.xxxi
1913 June – 6’ concrete sidewalk on the west side of Salsbury Drive between Venables and First Avenue at a cost of $3,213.39 with the city paying $514.04. xxxii
1913 September – 6” concrete curbs are proposed for the east side of Salsbury between Venables and William for a cost of $1,248.15 with the city paying $370.53; and from Charles to First Avenue for $1,648.70 with the city paying $875.39. These proposals were also published in By Law 1160 in February 1814.xxxiii
