1904 February – A.R. Rumour (?) wrote asking that Harris Street be opened from Victoria Drive to Salsbury Drive. The request was referred to the Engineer who reported a week later that “the opening of Harris Street to Victoria Drive, some 600’, would cost $250.” The proposal was held over to the estimates.”i
1904 April — R.E. Maxwell asked for the opening of Harris Street from Lakewood Drive to three lots in Block 8. The Engineer was asked for a report. ii
In April, R.E. Maxwell asked for the opening of Harris Street from Lakewood Drive to three lots in Block 8. D.L. Milne wrote that the “streets surrounding ‘a’ of block 177, be cleared. In each case the Engineer was asked for a report. iii In May, the Assistant Engineer reported that “the opening of Harris Street from Victoria Drive is nearly completed.”iv
1905 March – M.B. French et al asked for a walk on the north side of Harris Street from Victoria Drive to Salsbury Drive. The request was laid over for estimates. In July, the Board approved the sidewalk for a cost of $84. v
1905 June – An appropriation estimated at $1,075 was issued to open and grade Harris from Clark Drive to Salsbury Drive. Work took place between August 1905 and November 1906 for an actual cost of $965.09.vi
1905 August — The Board approved a request from M.B. French for a sidewalk on the north side of Harris Street from Salsbury Drive to Victoria Drive for a cost of $84. vii
1905 November — The Board approved a three-plank sidewalk on Venables from Woodland to Park Drives for $117, and on Park Drive from Graveley to First for $35. viii
1906 March – J. Healey and others asked that Harris Street between Semlin Drive and the City Limits be opened and graded. Referred to Engineer.ix
1906 August — The Board approved 3-plank sidewalks for Salsbury, south to Venables for $250; and for Harris street from Victoria to Salsbury for $120.x
1906 September – A 3-plank sidewalk was laid on the south side of Harris Street between Victoria Drive and Salsbury Drive. The foreman was George Freeman and the work was completed on 25th October.xi
1907 January – Harris Street was cleared and graded between Clark and Salsbury Drives, and stumps were burned along the way. George Freeman was the foreman and the work was completed on 13th March. xii
A representative of Western Land Co. wrote to the Board of Works: “As I am building four houses on Woodland Drive, corner of Harris Street at present and there being no way of access to this property whatsoever, I am petitioning your honourable body to improve the street here around.” xiii
1907 September – 6’ concrete sidewalk proposed for south side of Harris between Clark and McLean. Cost $1,158.30 with city paying $52.80 under By-Law 563. In the meanwhile, a 3-plank sidewalk was laid on the south side of Harris between Clark and McLean and on the north side from McLean to a point 120’ west. The work was completed on 30th October. xiv
1907 October – Harris Street was cleared between Salsbury and Victoria Drives. The work was completed on 30th October. xv
1907 November — Charles Spencer, 1767 Harris, and R.C. Peck, lot 12 block 7 DL 183d, wrote to the Board to “petition for the construction of a sidewalk on the north side of Harris Street, westerly from Salsbury Drive, at least as far as lot 13. The road has been filled in recently and is now on account of the heavy rains almost impassable.” xvi
1907 December – A 3-plank sidewalk was laid on the north side of Harris from Salsbury Drive to a point 200’ west. The work was completed on 24th January 1908. xvii
1909 February – Harris Street was cleared and graded between Lakewood and the City Limits. The work was completed on 21st July. That same month, work was started on a new sewer between Park and Victoria. xviii
1909 June – Harris Street was cleared and graded between Semlin and Lakewood Drives. The work was completed on 23rd July. The street was also rocked between Park and Salsbury, and from Clark to McLean, the latter work completed on 31 January 1910. xix
1910 March – Harris Street was graded from Park to Victoria. xx
1911 July – 6’ concrete sidewalk proposed for the north side of Harris between Commercial Drive and McLean at a cost of $1,125.69 with city paying $43.14; and for both sides of Harris between McLean and Victoria Drives at a cost of $5,527.86 with city paying $235.62. xxi
