Cotton Drive

1904 June — The Board received a request from a Mr Carter asking that William Street be opened from Park Drive to Cotton Drive, and Cotton Drive from Bismark to Charles. This was referred to the Engineer for a report. i

1904 September — Council: “From W.G. Wilson, complaining of a drain which crosses his lot at the corner of Grant Street and Cotton Drive., Grandview, which flooded his property. Referred to BOW.”ii

1905 March – H. Carter asked again for the opening of Cotton Drive and William Street.iii

April 1905 — The following acquisitions from Appropriations were approved by the Board of Works: iv

              Ward 3 Grading Victoria Drive $1,000

              Ward 4 Grading Cotton Drive $ 260

              Ward 4 Grading Woodland Drive $ 260

              Ward 4 Grading Bismark Street $ 200

1905 July – Appropriation #13 ordered Cotton Drive to be cleared and graded from Venables to 3rd Avenue at an estimated cost of $1,600. From March to November 1906, the Engineer spent $1,445.88 in labour and $84.61 in materials, although the work order was declared to be completed on 15th March.v

1905 — In early July the Board “recommended that stumps in lanes and roads between Woodland Drive and Cotton Drive in Ward 4 be taken out and roads made passable, referred to chain gang.”vi

1907 November – 3-plank sidewalks were laid on the east side of Cotton from Venables to a point 420’ south, and on both sides between William and Bismark. The work was completed on 13th February and 7th March 1908 respectively. vii

1909 July – 6’ concrete sidewalk proposed for both sides of Cotton Drive between Venables Street and Bismark. Cost $3,769.92 with city paying $849.40 under By Laws 563 and 624.viii

1912 June – 6’ concrete sidewalk is proposed for both sides of Cotton from Bismark Street to 3rd Avenue at a cost of $4,437.00 with the city paying $1,434.90.ix

1913 June – 6’ concrete sidewalk is proposed for both sides of Cotton Drive between Venables and Bismark at a cost of $4,388.05 with the city paying $1,286.22. x
