Later called Union Street, and then Adanac Street.
In July 1904, BOW received letter “From J. Mason et al, asking that Barnard Street be opened from Victoria Drive westerly. Ald. Macpherson said that if the logging engine worked well he would open both Barnard and Princess with it. The board recommended that Barnard be opened up … It was resolved on application of Ald. Macpherson to lay a new sidewalk from Venables to Parker Street, block 26E.”i
September 1904 — “Frederick and George Rumble, who are going to build on the corner of Woodland Drive and Barnard ask for a wagon road, which it was decided to build.”ii
1905 June – Appropriation #46 dated 5 June 1905 ordered the clearing and surface grading of Barnard Street from Vernon Street to Victoria Drive at an estimated cost of $1,650. The costs from July to December 1905 were $879.62 labour and $487.67 materials.iii
1906 February – Board of Works approved a sidewalk on Barnard from Victoria Drive to Semlin Drive at a cost of $60. The work was started in March and was completed by 21st May.iv
1906 April — The Board of Works recommended that Barnard Street be cleared and graded from Park Drive to Victoria Drive to a value not exceeding the $142.43 balance they had.v
1906 May – An appropriation of $500 was approved to clear and grade Barnard from Vernon Drive to Victoria Drive. The work, supervised by foreman George Freeman, was completed on 25th October at a cost of $507.11. Another work order for the same stretch was issued on 15 March 1907 and some work was done, again under George Freeman, but the ledger says the work was not completed as the “money ran out.”vi
1906 June – An appropriation of $500 was approved to clear and grade Barnard from Park Drive to Victoria Drive. The work was completed under foreman George Freeman on 25th October. vii
1906 October – The Board recommended 3-plank sidewalks on Barnard between Victoria and Salsbury, and between Woodland and McLean. The work on the south side of both sections was completed by 15th November. The 3-plank sidewalk on the north side from McLean east for 160’ was laid in March and April 1907.viii
1907 August — M. Sullivan wrote to the Board for them to “kindly consider my application for a sidewalk in front of my place [1698 Barnard] between Park Drive & Salsbury.” ix
1907 September – A 3-plank sidewalk was laid on the south side of Barnard between Park Drive and Salsbury Drive with the work completed under foreman George Freeman on 30 October. Also that month, work began on a 3-plank sidewalk on the south side from Clark Drive to a point 280’ east. The work was completed on 24 October.x
1907 November – A 3-plank sidewalk was laid on the north side of Barnard between Park Drive and Woodland Drive. The work was completed under foreman George Freeman on 13th December.xi
1908 April – An appropriation of $1,346 was approved for a new sewer on Barnard between Clark and McLean. The foreman was F.W. Mills and the work was completed on 29th April at a cost of $1,326.34.xii
1908 November — 3-plank sidewalks were laid on the south side of Barnard from Victoria Drive to Semlin Drive. George Freeman was the foreman and the work was completed on 12th December.xiii
1908 December – 3-plank sidewalks laid on the north side from Semlin to Lakewood. George Freeman was the foreman and the work was completed on 8th January 1909.xiv
1909 January – In the early months of 1909, 3-plank sidewalks were laid on the south side of Barnard from McLean Drive 450’ east and 400’ west. George Freeman was the foreman and the work was completed on 26th March.xv
1909 February – An appropriation of $1,150 was approved to clear and grade Barnard Street from Lakewood Drive to the City Limits. The work under foreman George Freeman cost $1,021.50. xvi
1909 May – A 3-plank sidewalk was laid on the north side of Barnard between Salsbury and Victoria Drives. The work was completed on 12th June.xvii
1909 June – Barnard was rocked between Park Drive and Salsbury Drive.xviii
1909 September – A 3-plank sidewalk was laid on the south side of Barnard from Semlin Drive to a point 175’ west. The work was completed on 14th October.xix
1909 November – 3-plank sidewalks were re-laid (?) on the south side of Barnard Street from Semlin Drive to a point 175’ west, and from Lakewood Drive to Templeton. The foreman was George Freeman and the work was completed on 31st January 1910.xx
1910 May – An appropriation of $2,900 was approved for a new sewer on Barnard between Park Drive and Victoria Drive. The work was begun in June under foreman W. Rainey and was completed at a cost of $2,714.18.xxi
1910 June – An appropriation of $2,000 was approved for a new sewer to be laid on Barnard between McLean Drive and Park Drive. The work cost $1,994.13.xxii
1910 July – An appropriation of $7,000 was approved for rocking along Barnard from Clark to Victoria Drive. George Freeman was the foreman as usual and the work cost $9,532.84. xxiii
1911 July – 6’ concrete sidewalks proposed for both sides of Union Street between Vernon and Victoria Drive at a cost of $10,682.04 with city paying $323.48. xxiv
1913 June – 6’ concrete sidewalk was laid on both sides of Union Street between Vernon and Victoria Drive at a cost of $12,890.93 with the city paying $463.34. xxv
